She meets a young orphan boy named Yango, after witnessing his thievery at a food market, and she soon realizes that he has a Hiruko in his arm and is a Xam'd. Yango is later ambushed by three thugs, but Nakiami convinces them to leave by handing her beat kayak over to them. As Nakiami heads off the next morning, Yango decides to tag along with her, and they both travel towards Tessik Village.
